What is TELC?

The Top End Linguistic Circle is an informal association of linguists and other language workers in the “Top End” of the Northern Territory of Australia. It has no fees or official membership list, and yet it has generally managed to hold a couple of small conferences almost every year since it developed in the 1970s. TELC meetings have often attracted between one and two dozen participants, mostly from the following organisations, as well as retired linguists in the area:

Meetings have tended to rotate among these organisations, where they are organised by the local TELC members. Often they are scheduled to enable visiting linguists to attend as well.
